Satisfactory Academic Progress
Students may have additional satisfactory progress requirements for scholarships
they've been awarded. Please closely review any letter(s) received from the
EAC Scholarship Office or contact that office (928-428-8272).
Continued eligibility for financial aid is conditional upon maintenance of
satisfactory academic progress. Progress is checked, basically, at the end of
the spring semester. Note exceptions as listed. These standards should not be
confused with the academic standards of the College, which may differ.
- Completion rate requirement. Students are required to complete
at least 24 credit hours for the academic year if they receive aid for full-time
enrollment for the fall and spring terms. Proportional amounts of time will
be required of students that are enrolled part-time for one or both semesters.
- Satisfactory grade point average requirement. The following
scale of hours attempted (not earned) and grade point average is used to meet
this requirement:
| 1-30 semester hours |
1.75 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale |
| 31+ semester hours |
2.00 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale |
Students failing to comply with the above standards will be placed on financial
aid probation for the next semester they attend, excluding summer. A
student may utilize the summer term(s) to complete needed hours from EAC or
other acceptable educational institutions. However, only EAC classes can affect
the cumulative GPA. A student may still receive assistance while on probation,
but must complete the enrollment level for which they are paid financial aid
with a 2.00 semester GPA. NOTE: Students on financial aid probation will
have their status checked at the end of the probation semester.
Failure to comply with probation requirements will result in financial aid
suspension and cancellation of further financial aid. NOTE: Students
that complete NO semester hours will be immediately placed upon financial aid
suspension and any aid cancelled for the remainder of the academic year.
A suspended student may re-establish eligibility by completing at least 12
semester hours and have the required cumulative GPA for total attempted
hours, without receiving financial aid.
A student may receive financial aid for a maximum of 96 attempted credits.
This includes transfer credits as well as classes for which a grade of A, B,
C, D, or F or a W (withdrawal without record) was received. Financial aid may
cover a maximum of 30 semester hours of developmental classes. This includes
classes below the 100 levels, MAT 120 and ENG 100. However these credits will
be included in the maximum total.
The Financial Aid Staff will attempt to notify the student of any deficiencies
in a timely manner; however, it is your responsibility to be aware of the conditions
of Satisfactory Academic Progress and to ensure compliance.
If a student fails to meet the financial aid standards of progress and feels
there are significant extenuating circumstances, they may submit an appeal.
Appeals are to be made in writing to the Director of Financial Aid and should
outline the specific problem and project your ability to complete the program.
Supporting documentation from their academic advisor is recommended. Other documentation
may be requested.
