Application Procedures
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be submitted as
soon as possible after January 1 if you plan to enroll the following fall term.
EAC's deadline for priority consideration is March 1. Since errors or incomplete
forms cause delays it is important to complete the form early, carefully and
accurately. If there are difficulties or questions in filling out the form,
please request assistance from a high school counselor or the Financial Aid
Office.
Approximately 30% of applications will be selected for a process called "verification."
If your application is selected, you must prove that the information you reported
is correct by submitting tax forms and other documents. Therefore, you should
save copies of all records and documents used in applying for aid.
Before aid can be awarded your financial aid file must be complete, including
all documents requested. Some aid is then awarded on a first-come, first-served
basis until funds are depleted. However, late applications are still encouraged.
The amount of your award is determined by eligibility, availability of funds
and compliance with deadlines. REMEMBER THAT YOU MUST RE-APPLY FOR AID EACH
YEAR.
You must supply parental information and signatures unless you answer "yes"
to any of the following questions:
- Will you be 23 years of age before January 1 of the year
for which you are seeking financial aid?
- Will you be working on a master's or doctoral
program (such as MS, MA, MBA, MD, JD, PhD, etc.) in the
year for which you are seeking financial aid?
- As of today, are you married? (Answer yes
if you are separated, but not divorced)
- Do you have children who receive more than
half of their support from you?
- Do you have dependents (other than your
children or spouse) who live with you and receive more than
half of their support from you and will these dependents
continue to live with you and be supported by you through
June 30 of the academic year for which you are seeking financial
aid?
- Are you an orphan or ward of the court
or were you a ward/dependent of the court until age 18?
- Are you a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces?
(See the application for the Dept. of Education's definition
of "veteran")
You can also apply over the Internet at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov
instead of using the paper form. In addition to Federal student aid, you
may also be eligible for a Hope or a Lifetime Learning income tax credit, both
of which you claim when you file your taxes. For more information on these tax
credits, this application, and the U.S. Department of Education's student aid
programs, look on the Internet at http://www.ed.gov/studentaid.
You can also call 1-800-4FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) Monday through Friday
between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. eastern time. TTY users may call 1-800-730-8913.
