Campus Living Options and Costs
Residence Towers
In
a traditional-style residence hall, students often become friends with
the group who lives in their section of the corridor. EAC's new Residence
Towers allow such friends to live more comfortably within their own community.
This like-gender group of 14-16 students shares a common lounge and kitchenette.
Under the umbrella of general hall policies, they develop guidelines for
acceptable behavior within their community.
EAC's
Residence Towers has nine communities designed to house 14-16 students
each. A community contains a bay-windowed common living room, dining
area and small kitchenette with a refrigerator, sink and lockable
food storage cabinets. Meal tickets are required because cooking capabilities
and food storage are designed to supplement the campus dining service
rather than replace it.
Four bedroom-suites adjoin the common living area. Each
suite has bathroom and sleeping accommodations for four students, in addition
to optional telephone, free basic cable TV and free individual computer
connectivity. Three of the bedroom suites in the Residence Towers are
designed for handicapped accessible living.
The lobby area has a dramatic three-story vaulted ceiling
with balconied lounges overlooking a fireplace and mountain views. Access
to the three floors is by an elevator from the lobby or outside walkways.
Laundry facilities are housed within the building. Students are supported
by Residence Life staff who assist students in developing and maintaining
their Community Living Agreements.
Residents have key access to their community 24 hours
per day. Visiting hours for the hall are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Communities
may agree to limit these hours within their Community Living Agreements.
Four-person Residence Towers bedroom-suites have one
entrance off the common living area of the community. The bathroom divides
the suite into two sides and can be used by all four suitemates at one
time with two sinks, a separate commode and shower stalls. Each side of
the suite has two sleeping/study areas. Each student will have either
a loft bed above a desk and dresser or a tall bed over a dresser with
their desk against a wall. Each student will also have a wardrobe and
another small dresser. The desk and wardrobe are equipped with hasps for
small padlocks. Storage lockers for suitcase-size items are available
on the ground floor of the Towers.
Each community is responsible for cleaning its common
area, bedroom suites, and bathroom.
All applicants assigned to the Towers who have completed
the Community Living Questionnaire and are willing to develop and
follow a Community Living Agreement are eligible to live in the
Residence Towers. Returning Towers students must meet citizenship requirements
which demonstrate their ability to make a positive contribution to community
living.
Like-gender students may request specific suite and community-mates.
Traditional Halls
In
EAC's other residence halls, students are assigned two per room. Each
floor has a community bathroom. Rooms have free basic cable TV access
and optional telephone hookup. There are communal microwaves in the lounge
areas. Microwaves are not allowed in the individual rooms. Residents
have key access to the hall 24 hours per day. Visitors are limited to
specific hours.
Room
scholarships cover the cost of a Traditional Hall. If the recipient wishes
to live in Residence Towers they must pay the cost difference and be assigned
as space is available.
Mark Allen - 88 men are housed in the
North wing and 88 women are housed in the South wing. They share a common
building entrance, lobby and lounge. Rooms are furnished with bunk beds.
Nellie Lee Hall - houses 50 men. Most rooms
are furnished with twin beds, a few with bunks.
